Our Services

Anyone can be referred to our services. We provide assessment and treatment in our specialist clinic in Kenfig Hill.

We also have mobile physiotherapists who can visit you at your home or care home. Working within the community also gives us the flexibility to be able to work with clients in the gym and swimming pool.

We can design a treatment plan with your goals and personal objectives that are tailor made to fully explore your rehabilitation potential.

Many clients require advice from other Health Professionals. We either involve these on a private basis or work in co operation with colleagues in the NHS, Social Services and voluntary organisations.

Some of the treatments options offered by Neuro Physio Wales are:

The Bobath approach is 'hands on' treatment which focuses on improving movement and therefore function after Stroke or for adults & children with Cerebral Palsy or other neurological conditions.

Our team offers physiotherapists with advanced Bobath training for adult and paediatric clients.

We are able to run a circuit classes specifically for clients with brain injury.

The circuit is modified for each client and works on improving balance, core stability and general cardiovascular fitness and strength.

Please contact us if you would like to enquire about joining the class.

Acupuncture can be used for the relief of pain and spasticity. Our Acupuncture Physiotherapists are registered with the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP).

Acupuncture is one of the many skills used within physiotherapy as an integrated approach to the management of pain and inflammation and as a means of stimulating the body’s own healing chemicals in order to aid recovery and enhance rehabilitation.

Acupuncture Physiotherapists of the AACP base their treatment on evidence-based western medical acupuncture research.

The Physiotherapist will determine the locations of the Acupuncture points, based upon the assessment. A number of needles may be used at each treatment and these are typically left in position for around 20-30 minutes before being removed.

Chinese Scalp Acupuncture

Originally invented by Dr. Shufa Jiao, a Neurosurgeon in China

Mainly used to treat brain related conditions, needles are inserted into specific areas on the scalp to achieve desired therapeutic effects.

Who Can Benefit From This Acupuncture?

Any individual with a neurological disorder.

How many sessions will I have?

The overall number of treatment sessions required will depend on you, your condition and your physiotherapist’s assessment. Most patients receive a course of 4-6 treatments although just one or two treatments may be enough. Sometimes 1 or 2 ‘top up’ treatments are required. Treatments are normally given at 1-2 weekly intervals. It is generally clear after a few sessions whether or not acupuncture will benefit you and if the treatment should be continued.

The Saebo is a functional dynamic neurological orthosis and can be used as part of an upper limb rehabilitation programme.

Within the clinic we have a range of Saebo products to enable upper limb rehabilitation:

  • SaeboGlove- a low profile functional device that assists neurological clients with finger and thumb extension.

  • SaeboMAS- mobile arm supports are specifically designed to facilitate and challenge the weakened shoulder during functional tasks and exercise drills. Patients suffering from neurological and orthopedic conditions that exhibit shoulder weakness can benefit from the much needed support and facilitation.

  • The SaeboFlex and SaeboReach allows individuals suffering from neurological impairments, such as stroke, the ability to incorporate their arm and hand functionally in therapy and at home. These unique orthoses position the wrist and fingers into extension in preparation for object manipulation. The user is able to grasp objects by voluntarily flexing his or her fingers. Once the fingers relax (stop gripping), the extension spring system assists in re-opening the hand to release the object.

  • We can arrange a free week trial with any Saebo product.
  • We can also provide a free assessment at our specialist clinic for selected Saebo products.

Sensory Electrical Stimulation & Functional Electrical Stimulation

The SaeboStim Micro provides sensory electrical stimulation (SES) to the arm and hand using a specialised Electro-Mesh Garment. Clients suffering from impaired function, weakness and spasticity can benefit from the much-needed stimulation.

Clinically effective solution for muscle rehabilitation.

Saebo’s AvivaStim is an advanced Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation System. The AvivaStim was developed to prevent or slow down muscle weakness, improve motor impairment, and re-educate and strengthen weakness.

Whether applying stimulation before or after the Saebo treatment or combining stimulation with the Saebo technology, providing multiple evidenced based treatment solutions can enhance overall functional recovery.

Patients can be partially suspended in a harness from one of our two track hoists in order to reduce weight bearing and provide postural support for treadmill/parallel bars walking in a safe manner. The amount of support can be gradually decreased as postural control, balance, and coordination begin to improve.

We offer a modified form of Pilates to work on core stability and flexibility.

Neuro Physio Wales can provide an evidence based specialist exercise programme to reduce the risk of falls and increase confidence and mobility. This exercise programme can be carried out at our clinic or a physiotherapist can visit you at your home or care home.

Following a detailed assessment. We can create a specially designed exercise programme for the individual to increase general fitness, strength and stamina to help with maximising rehabilitation and personal goals.

We are able to advise on sleeping and seating postures. The management of posture helps in controlling tone.

Why is positioning important?

Good positioning and seating are essential to:

  • Maximise function
  • Reduce sustained postures
  • Prevent pressure sores
  • Maintain soft tissue length
  • Reduce discomfort and noxious stimuli

There are different forms of massage which can be beneficial in different circumstances.

Following a period of exertion, or when you feel tired and achy, a gentle Swedish massage may be appropriate to reduce pain, promote relaxation and increase feelings of wellbeing.

Prior to a sporting event, a vigorous sports massage can increase blood flow and warm up the muscles. We can offer both sports massage and swedish massage according to need.

Our massage service is enhanced by the therapist also being a qualified and experienced physiotherapist so your treatment can be enhanced by general postural advice if required.

Our client using the SaeboFlex. The SaeboFlex can help to restore grasp and release for functional activities. The SaeboFlex & SaeboReach concepts are "based on the latest advance in neurorehabilitation research documenting the brain's ability to 're-program' itself through mass practice, task-orientated arm training". extract from the Saebo.com website.
